Skip the Scams and Start Working!

Published by ejobtips under Getting Started Edit This

“I work at home.”

When people hear these words, many think of pyramid schemes and a multitude of other scams. Granted, 95% of all work at home jobs are usually companies out to try and steal your money, but the other 5% are legitimate, stay-at-home jobs. I have been working at home for five years now, and even though at the beginning it was a little rough, I soon found a cluster of solid companies that I love working for. Best of all, there’s no more commuting and I get to set my own hours! Though you won’t get rich, these jobs can provide a comfortable flow of additional income. Today I am going to show you the best ways to ditch the scams and start working at home. Let’s get started!

Things to Avoid When Searching for a Home Job:

  • “I make thousands of dollars while I sleep!” or “I’m going to let you in on a secret to make tons of money!”

If a website says this, it likely is a scam. I myself have fallen for these tricks numerous times. Just click your back button and move on.

  •  To get started, you only have to pay…..”

Use common sense! Why should you have to pay to work for a company? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Do not get involved with these companies, no matter what excuses they give as to why you have to pay to begin working with them. (Please note however, that some legitimate work at home companies do require payment for a background check, as you could be handling their customers’ personal information.)

Once you have found a company that appears to be legitimate, do some research. This can be as simple as Googling the company’s name. Another thing to try is BBB.com (Better Business Bureau) or Ripoffreport.com to see if any complaints have been recently registered against your company. If the company comes up clean, I recommend getting opinions from other work at homers and see how they feel about the company. I personally find the people at the Wahm.com forums to be a great help whenever I have job questions.

Last but not least, trust your gut instinct. If you don’t feel comfortable you might want to do a little more research or move on to a different company. But, if you feel that the job is right for you, go for it!
